(NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced that Battlefield: Bad Company™ will ship to retail outlets on June 23. Action fans and gamers worldwide will get their chance to join the ‘B’ company on exciting, sometimes irreverent, missions that take them through deserts, cities and mountain terrain to capture the spoils of war. Give Your Heroes Character A Look

Tuesday 15 April 2008 | Post a comment

The official Battlefield Heroes website has released new details on how the character customization aspect of the game will function. In the latest blog update, James Salt, lead designer for Heroes, gave us an in depth look at the many ways you can make heroes characters your own. In total there will be 10 places you can customize your characters, everything from waste size to the shoes on his feet. Items will be available through valor points, which players can accumulate simply by playing on a regular basis. For more on the new feature, as well as a preview of some of the different characters you can create, be sure to check out the Official Blog.
"So, why did we go and make a Character Customisation system? Well, as I was saying back in the blog ‘Character Classes, Cameras and Computers‘; we wanted you to own your own Hero. What better way to do that, than to make the game so you can decide exactly how your Hero looks?

Your decisions about how your Hero will appear start with the Create a Hero section on the website. You select a faction, a class, set some default characteristics (like skin tone, hair colour, hair style and facial hair) and finally, name your Hero. Once that’s complete you can start the game and get into deciding on your Hero’s weapons, abilities and clothing."

EA scraps Bad Company weapon DLC!

Wednesday 9 April 2008 | Post a comment

Well it looks like EA listened to the fans. They made the announcement that they would not charge for weapon DLC.

"At the end of March, EA invited a select number of gamers to participate in an online multiplayer beta for the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield: Bad Company. Shortly after the Xbox Live server opened, gamers discovered that while many weapons would be available out of the box, 10 firearms appeared to be available only as downloadable content or through the purchase of the collector's edition of the game.

A firestorm of controversy followed, with fan site Sarcastic Gamer organizing Battlefield fans into a boycott of sorts due to the downloadable content for the title. EA moved quickly to diffuse some of the complaints, saying that five of the 10 locked weapons will actually be given away as part of a promotional campaign, and as such were incorrectly flagged. However, the publisher also noted that the remaining five would indeed be premium content, available only in the Gold Edition of the game or as downloadable extras purchasable over Xbox Live. "

Two Heroes Maps Confirmed

Thursday 3 April 2008 | Post a comment

In an interview this week with Gamasutra, executive producer Ben Cousins confirmed that there will be two maps available when Battlefield Heroes is released. While this may disappoint some, Cousins assures us that a third map is already in development and gamers will not have to pay a penny to receive new content.
"We are launching with two maps, but we already have one other in development - we are playtesting it as we speak and it’s great. Should be ready in the months, if not weeks, directly after launch. We have a full-time level designer assigned in the game’s post-launch team to keep making new maps (if you want more that is, we can make vehicles or game modes if you want instead) and we will be polling the community to find out what type of content you want to play."
For more on this subject, check out Gamasutra's Interview or the Official Blog.

Battlefield: Bad Company Blog - Beta Day 4

Monday 31 March 2008 | Post a comment

The official Bad Company Blog has been updated, outlining the highly talked about Gold Rush mode of game play. Also, the blog mentions scheduled maintenance and downtime for the Xbox Live Network, taking place April 1st at 2AM PST. Here's a snippet from the blog.
"We go through the all-new Gold Rush multiplayer game mode and explain why defenders seem to be winning more often as the attackers.

The new objective based multiplayer mode for Battlefield: Bad Company, Gold Rush, sees defenders fighting/holding off attacking forces in a fight over gold stashed in crates scattered across a variety of locations. From mountainous tundra to scorched deserts, pit your wits against wily opponents and line your pockets using a full array of state of the art vehicles and weapons."

Battlefield: Bad Company Beta Leaked?

Wednesday 26 March 2008 | Post a comment

After only a day into the multiplayer beta for Battlefield: Bad Company there is already talk about a possible leak. The multiplayer beta, which kicked off yesterday on Xbox 360, was a closed beta and keys were only able to be obtained through a handful of sources - making it somewhat easy to spot people who should not be there.
"Tipsters are telling us that the Battlefield: Bad Company beta has not only leaked to online download sites but that it may also be playable via a burnt DVD-R, much like the demo for Guitar Hero III. The ability to clone the download of the beta and release it to other consoles also reminds us of the Call of Duty 4 beta glitch which allowed gamers to use the account recovery feature to circumvent the barriers in place of people who hadn't been selected to participate in the closed test."

Expect to hear plenty more about this story in the coming days, and in the meantime checkout XboxFanboy who has posted plenty of details on the issue.

Introducing...Battlefield West?

Wednesday 26 March 2008 | Post a comment

Battlefield West, the game title you have probably never heard of but a game you are none the less familiar with. The reason you know more about the title than you may think is because it was the original name for Battlefield Heroes. In a new developer post, Senior Producer Ben Cousins discusses the task and requirements the DICE team went through in picking the name Battlefield Heroes. The post gives some real insight behind the inner workings of game studios and the daunting task of coming up with marketable titles. Head on over to the Official Battlefield Heroes Website to check out the complete article.
"As soon as you know you are going ahead with launching a game, you start thinking about it’s name. Battlefield Heroes wasn’t always called that — DICE gives products codenames so that information can’t be leaked about them before announcement. James Salt codenamed Battlefield 2142 ‘Stella’ (after the sci-fi setting and the Belgian beer), Battlefield Bad Company was codenamed ‘Next’ (as in ‘Next-Gen’) and Battlefield Heroes was simply called ‘West’ for the majority of the project (as in a South Korean-style Play 4 Free game brought to the ‘western’ world)."

Battlefield: Bad Company Kicks Off

Tuesday 25 March 2008 | Post a comment

Today many lucky Xbox 360 players were able to take Battlefield: Bad Company for a test drive courtesy of EA's open beta. The beta kicked off this morning, where users who were able to obtain keys from a only a handful of outlets got a chance to see how the multiplayer aspect of the game plays out. The beta focuses on "gold rush" game mode, a game play scenario where different squads are either attacking or defending gold treasure chests.

However, the beta didn't go off without a few setbacks. Some players received errors saying, "Servers are now live, but we are experiencing performance issues - We are looking into it, thank you for your patience.", and were unable to connect to the games. No word yet if the issue is resolved or how many players experienced the problems.

Already there have been several previews posted on various site, and most of them have bee pretty solid. Many players really enjoy the destructibility of maps, something we have heard a great deal about over the past several months, and the different game options available in the beta. One review we really enjoyed came from The Video Game Blog, which we have posted a snippet from below.
"Overall, Battlefield: Bad Company has a lot of potential. From my brief time with it I did enjoy it for what it was, and the game wasn’t short on fun. I’m sure the game will have a fare share of fans, just for the vehicle and destructible aspects alone. I just hope some of the complaints that I made were just a result of the game being in beta and don’t make it to the final version. Fingers crossed that EA and DICE are listening closely. But, we’ll have to wait until June to find out!"

Expect to hear plenty more in the coming days, and keep on the lookout for a very own preview which should be available soon.

EA Clears Up Weapon Purchasing

Monday 24 March 2008 | Post a comment

After last week's rumor about EA using microtransactions in purchasing new weapons for Battlefield: Bad Company, the company took the time today to clear up the facts from fiction. Apparently all the rumors stemmed from pre-launch promotional weapon releases, such as the sniper rifle available for those who pre-ordered the title from Gamestop. However, EA has now made it clear that after release several of these weapons will be made available free of charge. The remaining few will be reserved for those purchasing the Gold Edition. Check out the full press statement below for more clarity on the subject.
""Battlefield: Bad Company will release five unique weapons free of charge through five different promotional programs prior to launch," the rep noted. "EA will again make these weapons available to players free of charge after launch, in case anyone missed the pre-launch promotions."

The other five weapons will be made available to players who purchase the Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company, which will be released alongside the standard retail release this June. "For players who do not purchase the Gold Edition of the game, they can still buy the five weapons at a small individualized price per item," the representative continued."

Paying For Bad Company Weapons?

Friday 21 March 2008 | Post a comment

Just because you are shelling out $59.99 to pick up Battlefield: Bad Company doesn't guarantee you will have the best weapons in the game, at least according to rumors. Yes, talk is circulating that EA is planning to charge gamers separately to get their hands on a number of weapons in the upcoming beta test this week.

According to several sources, up to ten weapons are currently listed on the Xbox Live Marketplace with "Available For Purchase" tags alongside of them, apparently intended for the multiplayer aspect of the game. While microtransactions such as these are nothing new, they usually stay confined to skins and extra features - not actual items which alter game play. While all this may raise a few eyebrows, it is none the less pure speculation. I guess we will have to wait until next week to get the full scoop from those lucky enough to be participating in the beta.

Thanks Joystiq for the headsup.

Bad Company Release Date Announced

Friday 21 March 2008 | Post a comment

According to Shacknews, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 players will be able to pick up a copy of Battlefield: Bad Company this coming June. Also more news on the March 25th Multiplayer Xbox Live Beta, as apparently you can also get a beta key by pre-ordering the title from retailer GameStop. Great news considering prior to today IGN subscribers had what appeared be a monopoly on the keys.
"We're really excited about this beta since it gives us a chance to let a wider audience play our new multiplayer game [mode], Gold Rush," said senior producer Karl-Magnus. "The feedback coming back from something like this is crucial for us as developers and will help us with the final changes and polish in the game."

Battlefield Bad Company Beta Kicks Off

Thursday 20 March 2008 | Post a comment

Today EA has announced it has begun accepting applications for open beta of Battlefield: Bad Company. The beta testing will begin on March 25th for XBOX 360, and users accepted will receive a key that they can use to unlock the game. More information on the beta can be found below along with a few new screenshots, and if you would like to submit your application, head on over to the Battlefield: Bad Company Beta Signup. Good luck everyone.

"Listen up soldiers... This is your chance to land yourself in the Battlefield: Bad Company multiplayer beta test. This beta will give players a chance to revisit the glory of the battlefield and enter an exciting mission to recapture the rewards of war and the agony of defeat. You will be able to battle through two new diverse maps, access new infantry kits and vehicles as well as experience the new tactical destruction in Battlefield: Bad Company that is aiming to change how first-person shooters are played.

In this beta you will be confronted with the new multiplayer mode for Battlefield: Bad Company, dubbed Gold Rush. This new mode will let defenders fighting and holding off attacking forces in a fight over gold stashed in crates strewn across many locations. This will add a new level of excitement and danger to any battlefield vet. From mountainous tundra to scorched deserts, pit your wits against wily opponents and line your pockets using a full array of state of the art vehicles and weapons. Level up and unlock the weapons and gadgets that suit your playing style, and earn awards and tags that will keep you coming back for more.

Attackers need to destroy gold crates, either by shooting the crates or by placing a special charge on them if they manage to get in close. For each set of crates they take, they'll get a boost to their reinforcements pool. If they destroy all the crates, they win the round and are set up for life!

Defenders need to kill off all the attackers' reinforcement reserves before they manage to open all the crates. Each set of crates destroyed will open up a new area on the map to fight over. To win the fight, they need to eliminate all the attackers, but then they'll begin a luxurious early retirement...until the next round begins!

In this Beta, players will be able to fight on two of the maps that will be available at launch. The first map, Ascension, puts you in the middle of intense close quarter fighting through the back yards of a mountaintop village, culminating in the twisting dark corridors of an imposing monastery. The second map, Oasis, pits you in the full vehicle arsenal unleashed in a flooded desert valley. Tanks, choppers and boats will be your main weapons as you work your way through battered city streets.

Click the shinny graphic below to submit your chance in being drafted for this highly anticipated beta!"

BattleDirector 1.7 Released

Wednesday 19 March 2008 | Post a comment

A new version of BattleDirector was released today. Version 1.7 boasts plenty of new features as well as a slew of fixes. If you are unfamiliar with BattleDirector, it is a great little program for Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 movie directors which allows filmmakers to go from BFR to AVI in a few simple steps. While I myself have no idea what that means, chances are if you are into Machinima you might appreciate the significance. For more information or to pick up the latest version head on over to the Sir Community Website.
"Exactly 1 year, 1 month, and 1 day after the last release of BattleDirector, we've got a new version ready for all you Battlefield filmmakers! Most importantly, it fixes the rampant crashes when viewing & rendering Battlerecorder files with the 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2142. Also, it adds support for the custom shaders used by the Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 modifications. There is also a small change to the filenames of camera track files for easier organization, so you may need to rename some existing camera tracks after updating.

The full changelog:
- Fixed crashes occurring with BF2142 version 1.40
- Added support for Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 custom launchers
- Added automatic detection of BF2 & BF2142 install locations
- Fixed a crash that occurred when Global.con was set to read-only
- BattleDirector now asks for administrator rights in Windows Vista
- Removed "Save Settings" button, settings are now saved automatically
- Camera track naming convention is now bfrname-trackname to match the default tracks Battlefield generates, you need to manually rename your existing camera tracks to this format if you want to use them with BattleDirector 1.7 "

Battlefield Heroes Preview

Tuesday 4 March 2008 | Post a comment

Craving new details on Battlefield Heroes? Well you should check out Eurogamer, who recently posted a new preview of Battlefield Heroes which features plenty of newly announced game features. They reveal new details about the first two maps to be released in the beta, Olive Grove and Seaside Skirmish, plus plenty of developer commentary from figures like Senior Producer, Ben Cousins. Checkout Eurogamer for more.
"There's a lot of other stuff in there that will appeal to the FaceSpace generation: respawns occur every five seconds; there's no mini-map or friendly fire to worry about; holding "Q" brings up a 3x3 grid of emote shortcuts, so you can give someone a thumbs-up; weapons and abilities are lined up at the bottom of the screen so they sit above the number keys on your keyboard, making it obvious you need to hit "8" to heal; behind-the-scenes match-making offers "a fairly extensive way of matching up your skills and experience" with other players'; you can record and distribute videos of your bouts; and the basic game mode is simpler than ever."

Game Trailers interview Ben Cousins

Tuesday 4 March 2008 | Post a comment

Game Trailers have just interviewed Ben Cousins, who is the senior producer of the Battlefield Heroes series.

Cousins mentions that there are 3 classes in the game, and two armies. The army you play for is chosen when you create your account, and cannot be changed. Skills, Abilities, Levels and Experience are all built up as you play the game, or can be purchased.

Abilites such as "Speed Boost" affects a whole area, so not only does the speed boost affect you, but also the players around you.

He also mentions that he expects the game to be approximately 500mb at launch.

More Information on Battlefield Heroes

Tuesday 4 March 2008 | Post a comment

A recent presentation by Ben Cousins, the senior producer of Battlefield Heroes, has revealed more information on the aspects of the game.
You can read multiple reviews on the Presentation from sites such as ShackNews, IGN and GameSpy, but here's some of the information I noticed from the reviews I read.....

- Built in Demo recording from the ground level, which allows users to watch replays
- There isn't a Minimap
- Various stages of Betas- both open and closed (No items will be available for purchase during the betas)
- 2 maps are set to be availible at launch - One is called "Seaside Skirmish"
- Vehicles are easier to drive than those in BF2/ BF2142
- Pressing "Q" brings up a 3x3 grid of animations and actions, such as sticking up a thumb
- Each team starts off with 50 lives- the first to reach 0 looses
- The 50 lives doesn't mean 50 kills for the other team- capping flags gives your team a modifier, so 1 kill may equal 2 "lives"
- Most of your abilities have an effect on players around you as well
- There are no adverts in game- instead, these will be placed on the loading screens, and on the web portal

"It is always our commitment to work to prevent cheating and stat padding as part of an ongoing process. After the problems brought to light recently we have been working with the Ranked Server Providers to bring the stat padding to an end as well as dealing with those who have been using the exploit to boost their scores. Bad Company Delay Confirmed

Thursday 24 January 2008 | Post a comment

The rumors are correct, IGN is reporting that the game is being pushed back to "general 2008". Check out the release below.

"January 23, 2008 - Looks like fans will have to wait a little bit longer to be part of Battlefield: Bad Company. The upcoming title, which focuses on a squad of renegade soldiers who are seeking gold and revenge behind enemy lines was originally scheduled to be released in March. However, according to a recent email sent out by Electronic Arts, the DICE FPS has slipped from its early 2008 ship date to a general 2008 release date. We contacted Electronic Arts but were not able to receive a comment as to why the game had been pushed back. Wednesday 23 January 2008 | Post a comment

Live outside the US or Europe and are waiting to play Battlefield Heroes when it comes out? Think again! Kotaku Australia is reporting that those of us outside of the US and Europe are out of luck.

"If you were looking forward to trying out DiCE's Battlefield Heroes, the free-to-play game announced by EA earlier this week, think again. EA Australia has informed us that the game will not be available to audiences outside of the US and Europe."

"EA was unable to explain why the game won't be released outside the aforementioned territories, but the words "for the moment" were tossed around, so we may see the title eventually. Just not right now."

Such a shame, really.

CD-Key Issues Plague Battelfield 2142 Deluxe

Tuesday 22 January 2008 | Post a comment

With the recent release of Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition also came an unexpected problem: CD-Key activation problems. Many users have come forward saying that when they try and activate their new game, they receive an error stating "CD key has already been registered with an account".

While EA has yet to respond or acknowledge the issue, many users have posted on EA's Forums complaining about the problem. One theory is that the recently changed account system by EA may have led to the troubles. Once EA issues a response (hopefully soon), we will let you know.

EA Announces Free Battlefield Heroes Game

Monday 21 January 2008 | Post a comment

Today, Electronic Arts unveiled plans to release a free-to-play Battlefield game that will be wandering away from the realistic battlefield experience and graphics we're used to. They will be heading in the cartoon direction for graphics, much like the visually pleasing Team Fortress 2.

"Unique Cartoon Shooter Introduces a New Way to Play Battlefield

Munich, Germany, January 21, 2008 – At the Digital, Life, Design Conference (DLD) in Munich, Electronic Arts Inc., (NASDAQ: ERTS) today unveiled Battlefield Heroes™, an all-new Play 4 Free cartoon-style shooter that will bring classic Battlefield gameplay to an all new mass audience. Available for download at www.battlefield-heroes.com this summer, Battlefield Heroes is EA's first title that is offered completely for free, and features a built-in matchmaking system to ensure that players of equal skill are paired together for fair play. Developed by DICE in Stockholm, Battlefield Heroes is leading EA's new web-focused free to download, free to play business model which generates revenue through advertising and micro-transactions. With zero barriers to entry, now anyone can be a hero on the battlefield!

“Online gaming garners a massive audience,” said Gerhard Florin, EVP Publishing Americas-Europe at EA. “People want to play games in new ways, with easier access that is quick to the fun. With Battlefield Heroes, EA brings its first major franchise to North America and Europe with a new distribution model and pricing structure adapted to the evolving way that people play.”

Battlefield Heroes is a brand new game from the team behind Battlefield 1942™ and Battlefield 2™. It's fun cartoon-style graphics and gameplay caters to players of all skill levels. It is easy to pick up and play but with robust character customization and a deep online meta-game, gamers can spend hours building up their characters and conquering the world.

“We put a different twist on this Battlefield game going with the cartoon-style graphics and gameplay,” added Ben Cousins, Senior Producer at EA DICE. “There's something here for all types of players -- be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers. With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games.”

Battlefield Heroes will be released for the PC as a free download in summer 2008. This product is not yet rated by PEGI or ESRB. For more information on EA DICE, please visit www.dice.se or www.ea.com."

The guys from Operation Peacekeep have posted a nice update, check it out below.

The mostly feared by serbian tankdrivers in the long history of OPK is the portable anti-tank-weapon MILAN 2.

We hope you all made it good to the new year. Our first update in 2008 gives you a foretaste to the content of the version 0.25. After the next news we will provide you some fresh pictures out of the game. The work on new content goes on, but of course new motivated helpers are always welcome!

Already in the BFV-Version we had the MILAN (french: Missile d'Infanterie léger antichar) ingame. It was developed in the 70s under german-french cooperation. Since 1984 the lightweightest ground to ground wire controlled weapon of the 2. generation is in the use of the Bundeswehr. The control unit in this version is equipped with a thermal vision. The Gunner only needs to point the crosshairs at the target and the wire guided missile will follow these instructions until it hits the target. In the meantime the MILAN is used by over 40 countries throughout the world. The last important usage was the fight of the Israelis in the fight against the Hisbollah in the Libanon.
