About Battlefield: Bad Company
A Brief Synopsis
Destructible Environments
One of the new features exclusive to Bad Company will be the addition of 93.2% destructible environments. Most of the terrain will be able to be destroyed, enabling players to create strategies with this new opportunity. For example, snipers might be able to blow away a corner of a building so that they could use that section as a place from which to fire. This does not mean that they are invincible, however. Vehicles such as tanks will have the firepower to destroy many of these buildings, encouraging the player to retreat and find another strategic point. Buildings are not fully destructable though, all but the frame of the building will be destructable. As seen in a short clip from a recent trailer, walls can also be destroyed by running in to them with vehicles. In addition to destructible buildings, in Bad Company you are able to destroy most vegetation, leaving debris on the ground. Example of destructibility and gameplay. On the Frostbite Engine trailer it showed the dynamic lighting, which means if you blow a hole in the side of a building the shadow will change during the day cycle.
Classes
In a move similar to Battlefield 2142, the number of soldier classes will be lowered, resulting in a combination of the classic soldier classes. This will lead to a greater amount of customization.
Weapons
Available weapons are currently unknown, but they will likely contain modern favorites as well as some new concepts based on future weaponry, such as the XM8 rifle with an M320 40mm grenade launcher that is shown in a few of the screenshots as well as the HK 416 in other screenshots. Also in the magazine "PLAYSTATION", it has a screenshot of the player holding a Swedish AT4 rocket launcher (not to be confused with the Russian AT-4 Spigot anti-tank guided missile launcher) and the XM8 rifle.
The recent September trailer also features the PKM machine gun, the M40 sniper rifle, the M249 SAW, among other weapons.
Laser Designator
In Battlefield: Bad Company, you are able to "splash" a target with a laser to designate that target for an air stike with the ordinance being an accurate Laser-guided bomb (LGB).
Vehicles
Available vehicles aren't confirmed, but gameplay and screenshots have revealed these vehicles:
Helicopters: Mi-24 Hind, Ka-50 Hokum, AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Black Hawk.
Vehicles: T-90, BMP-3, GAZ-3937 Vodnik, M1A2 Abrams, M2 Bradley, Humvee.
Ironsights
Ironsights are the standard sights for most weapons. Battlefield 2 for the PC had many weapons that used ironsights, such as the M16 assault rifle. Aiming without Ironsights in Bad Company will greatly decrease the accuracy of your shots. Using Ironsights will temporarily blur out surrounding objects.
Gameplay Modes
Well-known for its popular multiplayer support, DICE will take on a different strategy for this game and focus additionally on the single-player component, while still maintaining the multiplayer features expected from a Battlefield game. Once again the Battlefield Theme returns in elements for the main music.
Single Player
Haggard, one of the single player mode characters as shown in a trailer released February 2007.
Haggard, one of the single player mode characters as shown in a trailer released February 2007.
The story, which takes place "just a few years into the future," involves the members of "B-Company" (nicknamed "Bad Company"), a special company where renegade, insubordinate or otherwise troublesome soldiers are sent (and usually assigned to the role of cannon fodder). The story begins when the members spot a truck full of gold crossing the border of the fictional Eastern European neutral country of Serkozache. They figure the Army doesn't pay them well enough, so they decide to desert their posts and steal the gold. Their adventures will take place in locations such as Eastern Europe and other locations around the world. Whether or not the plot will involve the world's superpower armies is yet to be seen.
Characters
Haggard is a redneck-type soldier who enjoys blowing things up. After the narrator in the first trailer told him about the new ability to blow up objects he fired three grenade launcher shots, first two shots hitting the buildings and the third shot hitting the narrator himself.
Sergeant Redford, Haggard's superior, has a more serious attitude toward whatever situation he is in, although he still has a somewhat prideful personality, using the war as a way to obtain "gold, revenge, and whatever's worth fighting for.
Preston is the player character. He is the "new guy" as seen in early gameplay footage. In the single player campaign mode, you play as Preston.
Sweetwater is the brains of the squad, and is quieter, more cautious, and carries a M249 SAW.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer mode will support up to 24 players. Revealed screenshots hint that battles will take place in environments similar to Battlefield 2. Example locations will include towns and tropical areas. Recent screen shots confirm the return of the US Humvee, tanks, and helicopters. |
