Commo-Rose Confirmed
Posted by: RogueWarrior | Tuesday 16 August 2011
Great news for all the PC fans out there: DICE’s Karl Magnus Troedsson has just confirmed in an interview at GamesCom in Germany (and via Twtter)that the Commo Rose command interface will be returning to Battlefield 3. Troedsson said that Commo Rose will return to Battlefield 3, but won’t be in the version showcased at GamesCom.
Commo Rose was one of the most wanted features from Battlefield fans, and it’s wonderful news to know that it’ll be returning in Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3 Will Not Be Sold On Steam
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Friday 15 July 2011
The shaky ground between Battlefield 3 producer EA and Valve apparently just got a little shakier today as GameStop confirmed that Battlefield 3 will not be available come release day on Valve's popular online retail outlet Steam.
Industry analyst Colin Sebastian wrote in a Baird Equity Research stated "The upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam," it says. "Given Steam's dominance - and insistence on users downloading a Steam client application - publishers are likely to be receptive to a competitive alternative."
Whether or not publishers are actually looking for a "competitive alternative" to Steam, there are certainly a number of recent services that have been launched to rival it. EA itself recently launched its Origin service.
However, EA was quick to remind the public, and the millions of users who hold Steam Accounts, that it does not discriminate or blcok its games from any platform.
"This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA,” the firm claimed. We will keep you posted.
First Image of Battlefield 3 Battlelog Leaked
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Friday 15 July 2011
On the same day testing of Activision's brand new Call of Duty online social service today, ironically (or maybe not) the first alleged images of EA's competing Battlefield 3 Battlelog have leaked onto the internet.
Although details have yet to be confirmed, Battlelog is rumored to allow players to keep close track of their in-game stats, equipment, and achievements, while adding a social media aspect where friends can connect, chat, and enter multiplayer or co-op matches together.
Neither EA or DICE has not officially commented on the leaked image, which first appeared on German Battlefield site Battlefieldo, but judging from the overwhelming press it appears to be legitimate.
Battlefield 3 To Feature 12 Hour Campaign
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Thursday 31 March 2011
DICE today confirmed that the single player campaign portion of Battlefield 3 will last 12 hours to complete.
Although the single player campaign may seem rather short, DICE reaffirmed that the focus is still on the multiplayer, and that the single player portion is to attract more potential players and give new users a chance to perfect their skills before entering the online matches.
Also noted by DICE is that the single player campaign will focus more on realistic battlefield experiences, rather than some of the more lighthearted slapstick routines from the Bad Company series.
Faultline Episode 3 Trailer Released
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Thursday 31 March 2011
EA has unveiled the third installment of its Battlefield 3 Fault Line trailer series, cleverly titled Fault Line Episode 3. While a bit shorter than the previous two trailers, the trailer gives us plenty of new live gameplay footage of IED-defusing and melee fighting scenes as well as our first glimpse at potential aircraft - as a Little Bird helicopter hovers overhead the battlefield unleashing its chain guns on the enemy.
But before we give too much away, you can watch the complete new Fault Line Episode 3 HD trailer yourself below.
Battlefield 3 Could Support 3D / Move
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Sunday 20 March 2011
Although it has repeatedly stated that the PC will be the lead platform for Battlefield 3, DICE has revealed that it is now considering including 3D and Move support for the PS3 version of the title.
In an interview with OPM, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson and art director Gustav Tilleby stated, "We are thinking about it, yes, definitely."
"Of course we look at what the others are doing. At the same time, we're looking at what we can improve. I think the technology we have is a step beyond what the others have," added Tilleby.
The two did not mention whether the inclusion of such features would alter the Playstation 3 release date of Battlefield 3, which is still due out at the end of the year along side an Xbox 360 and PC version.
Treyarch: BF3 Is Visually Stunning
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Saturday 19 March 2011
The DICE team is getting props from an unlikely source this week - competitor Treyarch, whose community manager Josh Olin recently said in an interview that "Battlefield 3 is visually stunning" and "looks really beautiful".
The comments come on the heals of Treyarch publicly acknowledging that the Call of Duty engine, which will be used for the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, is not as powerful as DICE's new Frostbite 2 engine. Yet, that doesn't mean Treyarch has officially given up the battle. When asked about the current engine, Olin said "The [CoD] engine's really good, it's a very powerful engine, and we can layer in and update things if we want to."
Fault Line Episode 2 Trailer Released
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Saturday 19 March 2011
EA has released a second Battlefield 3 game play trailer this week, Fault Line Episode 2 Trailer. The new trailer is a sequel to the one released a few weeks ago, and again showcases the single player storyline as your squad moves through the first level.
DICE Community Feedback Challenge
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Tuesday 15 March 2011
In its quest to develop Battlefield 3 to meet the needs of its gamers, the game's developer, DICE, has requested the public's feedback as to what features you would like to see included come release day.
"DICE is starting a new community challenge asking Battlefield fans to give us your feedback in the most creative way you can think of," the studio wrote. "We want to know what it is you want in Battlefield 3, whether it is game specific features, weapons, vehicles or anything!"
DICE also promises "some very nice prizes" to whoever makes the best/most memorable suggestions, and to the community site where it was submitted as well. However, simply sending them an email requesting more realistic weapons probably won't get you a first prize. The developer has stated that in order for your request to be taken seriously, it must be presented in a creative manner.
To get involved yourself, head on over to the Google Community Press Room created for the challenge.
Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Details Confirmed
Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Monday 7 March 2011
DICE has released a list confirming key features for the multiplayer portion of the game this week. Here's what we know so far:
- Players: 64 players on PC, 24 players on Xbox 360/PS3.
- No Commander. Commander feature won’t be included, as DICE will focus on “lowering the threshold” for players.
- 4 classes, just like in Bad Company 2. DICE feels this is the sweet spot for the game.
- Battlefield 2 maps, several BF2 maps will return in a DLC called “Back to Karkand”. The maps are: Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island and Sharqi Peninsula.
- New squad features. DICE plans to take the squad system to the next level, offering new features. According to the Game Informer interview, DICE says, “We have some really cool things that we’ll show later when it comes to dictating how you play with friends“.
- Weapons and unlocks. BF3 will have more weapons and unlocks than in Bad Company 2, which itself had the most weapons and unlocks of any Battlefield game to date.
- Deeper persistence, rankings. One of the issues with Bad Company 2 was that most of the weapons were unlocked before reaching half of the ranks. Says DICE in the GI interview, “we’re also making sure that there is a reason for you to reach the top rank. It doesn’t just end. There will be a lot of focus on persistence and how we present stuff to the player.”
- Jets will return, so far only the US F18 and Russian Mig 29 have been spotted in various trailers.
- Prone will return, DICE will counter prone will killcam, bullet traces and other ways in order to balance the gameplay.
- Killcam will be back and it will be a feature that can be turned on/off on server to server basis.
- DICE will have more focus on post-release content (DLC)
- Co-op for the single player campaign
- No mod tools at release.
We will keep you posted as more details emerge.
